As long as you keep cue and reward of the Habit loop the same, you can change the routine however you like. The trick is to deliver the same reward.

Note that reward might not be that obvious. e.g., habitual smokers usually don’t get reward from nicotine but rather use cigarettes to socialize, deal with boredom, or take a break.
