Using the word “mentor” carries some negative connotations and might be off-putting. (Being mentor is an obligation.) Asking “Will you mentor me?” directly is a turn off.

Approach with your challenge or situation and ask for help and guidance. Don’t ask them for an hour consultation, invite them for coffee, say 30 minutes.
