We don’t read code for the sake of reading. There are very different specific activities that we do: exploring the code, trying to find something specific, trying to figure out what the code does, reviewing the code, etc.
Reading code is a tool, not a goal. These activities could be done more efficiently without reading if we have tools supporting them.
