Mueller & Oppenheimer2014 shows that laptops users take verbatim notes in lecture (fixed-time) settings. But may the situation be different in non-lecture setting?
As a personal anecdote, I copied passages verbatim even when taking notes by hand.
On the other hand, copying passages from text documents on computer is even easier.
As ofmy stance is that taking non-verbatim notes with laptop is hard. It’s much easier to do with pen and paper (even though I know that I should take notes non-verbatim, I still copy/retype passages when taking notes on laptop).
As ofmy stance is that taking non-verbatim notes with the laptop is possible—just takes discipline and getting used to it.
